As a lifelong supporter of the Green Party, I am excited to be the local candidate for the Calder ward in these council elections.
I am fairly new to the Hebden Bridge area, having moved here just over three years ago. I work for a social enterprise as a manager of a mental health crisis service in Manchester City centre, and I am a member of Unite trade union.
For me, green politics is all about doing the very best we can to promote global justice, conserve precious resources and build a sustainable economy that values our health and well-being over the need to make profits at whatever cost.
At a time when we are all becoming more aware of the Climate crisis, I believe we need many more green voices at all levels of government.
Due to Westminster central government controls, our local councils sadly have very limited powers over tax and spending decisions. But I firmly believe that we deserve to have councillors who will show leadership when it comes to standing up for tackling poverty and injustice, building our resilience to the climate emergency, and improving local democracy and inclusivity for all members of our community.
Green Party elected councillors up and down the country now have a proven track record of showing such leadership, and I ask for your support in becoming your local elected representative on 2nd May.
Yes!
