Thanks so much to everyone who supported our By-Election campaign
We ran a brilliant campaign but the result was disappointing.
Thanks so much to everyone who supported our fantastic candidate Roseanne Sweeney in the Skircoat by-election.
Green activists distributed thousands of leaflets and knocked on hundred of doors over the last six weeks.
And there was plenty of support on doorsteps from residents for our message of hope in a ward we have not campaigned in before.
In the end, we got squeezed by larger parties in a highly competitive contest against the wider backdrop of the rise of the hard right.
There were lots of positives however which we will build on and we are already planning next steps and our campaign in the Calderdale-wide elections next year.
The fight is on for a positive alternative to austerity and the politics of division — a fairer and more liveable future for all.
Are you interested in becoming a Green councillor?
These are exciting times for the Green Party in Calderdale.
We have trebled councillor numbers in three years, won ten per cent of the vote in the general election across Calderdale, and ran Labour close in an ultra-safe seat in a by-election in October.
We have big plans for the local elections in 2026 when all council seats in Calderdale are up for election.

Our priority will be defending our three council seats in Northowram and Shelf, but we want to get more Greens elected; so will be running target (that is, active) campaigns in at least two other wards.
That means we need more party members willing to stand in target wards, who would like to be councillors, if elected, as part of a growing Green team on the council.
Could this be you? You should be interested in helping your local community, have time to attend council meetings in the evening and support Green Party policies.
Don’t worry! Training and support will be provided if you don’t have prior experience. It is hard work, but very enjoyable and rewarding!
We would particularly encourage women and people from ethnic minorities to put themselves forward.
