The Local Plan is a Council-led proposal to build more than 10,000 new homes in Calderdale. The Plan, ordered by the Conservative Government, will trigger the building of nearly 1,000 new houses in our area.
The local community in Shelf & Northowram (led by the Local Plan Forum) is fighting the Plan, with the assistance of the Green Party. At official ‘hearings’ in the Autumn, Green Party candidate Martin Hey spoke on behalf of local residents.
Martin says:
‘The Planning Inspector has now given her initial views from this autumn’s hearings. We’re pleased that the inspector has responded to some of our concerns. But this remains an uphill battle — the council themselves are still not listening to local residents.
‘The Planning Inspector has insisted on further hearings, which the Council are proposing to hold in the week beginning 10 May 2021. This is days after the local elections — having a Green Party Councillor in these discussions would make a massive difference. I’d ask everyone use your vote in May.’
