Northowram and Shelf Residents urge Council action on roads and rubbish

At the March Residents’ Forum in Northowram and Shelf, Green Party candidate Martin Hey described local people’s concerns with the state of our area, as we move out of our long lockdown. Martin highlighted a range of issues that haven’t been addressed over the last 12 months, and which in many cases have become more serious over that time.

Martin Hey
  • A huge number of pot-holed roads, made worse by previous repair work not being good enough. Bridges and walls have also suffered damage from flooding and traffic accidents.
  • Continued resident concerns about traffic levels in Shelf, including speeding traffic at the Cooper Lane roundabout and dangerous parking on Bradford Road.
  • Litter bins regularly overflowing.
  • Smoke Pollution affecting large parts of our area.
  • Littering and antisocial behaviour focussed around Shelf Hall Park.
  • Blocked gutters in Shelf, Northowram and Shibden.
  • Shelf Village Hall and Library remain in danger of closure.

Martin says:

Now is the time for a fresh start for our area. This means better roads, less pollution and a cleaner environment for us all to live in.

I’ve asked the council to address a range of issues. It’s clearly been difficult to address all the issues over the last 12 months, but now’s the time for action.
