Martin Hey ~ Green Party candidate for Northowram and Shelf ward May 2022

Introducing Martin Hey

Martin Hey in a country settingMartin Hey

Born in Halifax and living in Northowram, Martin decided to stand for election in order to defend our area’s way of life against the threat of massive community housing schemes and the neglect of local roads and services. Martin Hey has been part of the local Green Party team for a number of years and has a track record of taking action to support and defend the interests of our area.

Martin explains why he is standing:

‘I’m thrilled to have been chosen as the Green Party’s candidate for the election in Northowram and Shelf on 5 May 2022.

‘Over the last 20 months, we’ve been delighted by the support we’ve received from local people. I’m determined to help them when I get elected.

‘Having come second with 24% of the vote in May 2021, it’s a clear choice between me and the Conservative candidate. Labour never win in Northowram and Shelf.

‘In recent years, Calderdale Council has been run by the Labour Party. Over that time, there’s developed a feeling that Northowram, Shelf, Claremount and Shibden haven’t been well treated. Local services have got worse, whilst new building on our green spaces is out of control.

‘Any protests the Conservative Councillors make are just ignored — it’s the way the old parties work. I can bring a new voice to the Council — one that can’t be ignored.’

Martin adds:

I’m looking forward to the election. If I’m successful, I promise to be a strong independent voice holding the current Labour-led council to account.
